Tonik Nibok

Appears in: Poets

Tonik Nibak was an exceptional woman from Zinacantán who had a great way with words. Robert M. Laughlin remembers her as the best storyteller he has ever known. Tonik worked as a servant in San Crlstóbal from age seven, then became a weaver. Her last years were dedicated to making life possible for her sons-in-law and selling roses door to door in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas.

PRINCIPAL WORKS: As an oral poet, most of her works were not recorded.
