Shamanism

DESCRIPTION

Shamanism is a practice that involves reaching altered states of consciousness to encounter and interact with the spirit world and/or other than human forms of knowledge and channel these transcendental energies into this world.

According to David Lewis Williams (referring to ancient rock art among the San of South Africa), the spectrum of altered consciousness from normal states all the way to ecstatic relates to the imagery showing deeper emotions. This in turn may be integrated into our daily life, (as viewers), as well as providing a context for the way people live their lives in other cultures. This way of talking about degrees of shamanistic states and actions opens it up more for how it is for us to be in various states of awareness and emotional connectivity to ecstatic dimensions. Reading what David Lewis Williams says about shamanism we could relate these states to what we live differently in our daily experience.
