Silvia Guerra was born in Maldonado, on the east coast of Uruguay. She has published poetry books such as De la arena nace el agua (Montevideo, 1986); Idea de la aventura (Montevideo, 1990); Replicantes Astrales (Montevideo, 1993. First Prize of Poetry of the Municipality of Montevideo 1990-1991); La sombra de la azucena (New York, 2000); Nada de nadie (Buenos Aires, 2001); Estampas de un tapiz (New York, 2006). She is the co-author of a book of reports, Conversaciones Oblicuas / Diálogos entre la cultura y el poder (Montevideo, 2002) and of the books of correspondences: El ojo atravesado I. Correspondencia entre Gabriela Mistral y escritores uruguayos (Chile, 2005) and El ojo atravesado II. Gabriela Mistral entre los uruguayos (Chile, 2007). She also published Fuera del relato, una biografía aproximada de Lautréamont (Bassarai, Spain, 2007). In 1989 she participated in the interdisciplinary collective meeting "Viva la Pepa: 10 poetas, 10 plásticas", in which musicians, plastic artists and poets took part. Between 1990 and 1993 she was part of the publishing group Ediciones de Uno. She was one of the organizers of the First Hispanic American Poetry Festival in Uruguay (1993) and the First Metropolitan Poetry Biennial in Uruguay (2006). She currently edits, together with Roberto Echavarren, the poetry imprint "La Flauta Mágica". Her latest book is Un mar en madrugada (2018). She is a board member of both the Mario Benedetti Foundation and the Nancy Bacelo Foundation. In 2012, she was awarded the Morosoli Prize in Poetry for her career.
